The Fate of the Furious breaks global box office record

The Rock and Vin Diesel WILL star in Fast and Furious 9 after feud

"It's a sign that a franchise built around muscle cars and odes to the importance of family is growing more global in scope", wrote Brett Lang, senior film and media editor for trade magazine Variety in an online commentary. What is the smart approach that gives people what they want?

"The Fate" was the only new release of the weekend.

Tabloid magazines and gossip websites reported earlier Vin Diesel and The Rock were feuding on the set of the mega-successful film.

"The Boss Baby" was second this weekend with $16 million in sales between Friday and the close of business Sunday.

Mitch Haniger's 3 hits, 4 RBIs lifts Seattle past Miami 10-5
For the second time in three days, the Miami Marlins' bullpen let a no-hitter fall a few outs short of completion. Along with his fourth home run of the season, Yelich's catch in the first inning will be tough to top all season.

Holding its own, however, was a re-released, extended version of the 1995 Stephen Chow comedy, A Chinese Odyssey Part 2: Cinderella (大话西游之大圣娶亲), which grossed RMB 96 million (USD 13.9 million).

Actress Charlize Theron attends the "Fast & Furious 8" photocall at the Villamagna Hotel on April 6, 2017 in Madrid, Spain.

The Disney blockbuster, starring Emma Watson and Dan Stevens, has taken in US$454.7 million (RM2.002 billion) domestically while pushing past US$1 billion (RM4.40 billion) internationally. It stars Vin Diesel who plays Dom, Dwayne Johnson who plays Hobbs, and Jason Statham who plays Deckard. In fact, it seems their fall-out was little more than a battle of egos according to a new report.

The new picture is the costliest so far, with a budget of $250 million, according to Box Office Mojo, nearly double the cost of some of the earlier installments. In fact, Universal Pictures already announced that there will be a 9th and 10th installment in 2019 and 2021, so the success is not over yet. Reports have it that "The Fate of the Furious" managed to make $100.2 million in the U.S. for its opening which is $47 million short compared to the $147.2 million opening of its predecessor "Furious 7" that was released in 2015. Diesel reprises the role of auto racer Dominic, now married and retired. The recent installments have improved in quality, receiving much higher scores with critics than the first four films.
