O'Reilly's departure creates new challenges for Fox

"By ratings standards, Bill O'Reilly is one of the most accomplished TV personalities in the history of cable news", Murdoch wrote in the memo obtained by The Hill.

Bill O'Reilly has released an updated statement after the official announcement of him leaving FOX News Channel.

Bill O'Reilly has lost his job at Fox News Channel following reports that five women had been paid millions of dollars to keep quiet about harassment allegations. After the Times report, dozens of his shows advertisers pulled their advertising from his show and moved to other Fox News programming.

On Tuesday (18 April), 21st Century Fox also reported receiving an anonymous complaint against O'Reilly from a black female employee who claimed that the anchor had "leered" at her and referred to her as "hot chocolate" in 2008. The tweets reference the time O'Reilly called transgender people "insane" and "inappropriate", when he said he doesn't think same-sex marriage is protected under the constitution, when he compared gay people to al Qaeda and more.

Following the NYT report, however, numerous advertisers had made a decision to pull content from O'Reilly's show and rumors hinting at an internal debate over keeping the host on-air began to appear.

You may have already heard, there are some major changes coming to the programming lineup here at Fox News channel. Before and after the accusations, O'Reilly remained one of the most popular commentators on cable news.

With a profit center gone, 21st Century Fox stock fell nearly 1 percent Wednesday in heavy trading.

Marc Kasowitz, O'Reilly's lawyer, said in a statement that the television host "has been subjected to a brutal campaign of character assassination that is unprecedented in post-McCarthyist America".

MPs clear way for general election on June 8
Elections are now set for 2020, just a year after the scheduled completion of Brexit talks. The Conservatives are expected to publish their manifesto in the week starting May 8.

And 21st Century Fox is much bigger than O'Reilly, Fox News and its aging, conservative audience.

"I understand how hard this has been for many of you", Rupert Murdoch said in the memo.

For what it's worth, I appeared on "The O'Reilly Factor" three times over the years, most recently in 2015 about manufactured leftist anarchy in Ferguson, Missouri.

Author Stephen King tweeted: "New book by Fox News: Killing Bill O'Reilly".

For American conservatives who reject the RINO establishment, O'Reilly will not be missed.

"Lastly, and most importantly, we want to underscore our consistent commitment to fostering a work environment built on the values of trust and respect".

O'Reilly left for vacation a week ago amid the controversy - and left viewers of his top-rated cable show wondering who might replace him if Fox News parts ways with him.
