New Prince EP arrives one year after his death

Prince

The song was available for streaming and downloading on Apple Music and iTunes this morning, but it appears Apple has already taken it down in both formats in light of the lawsuit.

Prince, and Ian Boxill (2Pac, Gladys Knight, Janet Jackson, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, multiple award winning Prince albums), co-wrote and co-produced all of the tracks beginning in 2006.

Unheard Prince songs will be released on a new EP to mark the anniversary of the music legend's death.

However, Boxill said in a statement on Tuesday that he felt Prince would have wanted the songs released independently because they were recorded at a time when he was embroiled in disputes with major record labels.

Tuesday weather: Showers likely, thunderstorms possible
Tonight: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11 p.m., then a slight chance of showers between 11 p.m. and midnight. After a partly sunny start this morning, the weather service says overcast skies will dominate by the afternoon hours.

The EP, also titled "Deliverance", features the never-heard-before tracks "Man Opera", "I Am", "Touch Me", "Sunrise Sunset".

According to reports, the lawsuit says a 2004 confidentiality agreement shows George agreed that all recordings would remain Prince's sole and exclusive property.

The estate and Paisley Park have filed a federal lawsuit to stop the release of the EP and have estimated that the value of the tracks to be at least $75,000.

Prince tragically passed away at the age of 57 on the 21st of April past year, and now his estate have granted permission for music from his top secret fault to be released to the public.

"Deliverance" will come out as a digital release with a physical copy following on June 2. After Prince's death, Boxill completed the compositions and arrangements, finished the production and mixed the songs. While it didn't feature any brand new material, it did include the first official release of "Moonbeam Levels" which had only ever been heard in demo form.

The new music will be released via independent Vancouver-based label RMA, rather than a major record label.
