Donald Trump signs executive order targeting H-1B visa used by Indians

President Trump has moved towards his first major breakthrough in changing legislative policy by signing an executive order which targets highly-skilled workers in the United States.

Trump is traveling to the Kenosha, Wisc., headquarters of tool-maker Snap-on Inc.

"Right now, H-1B visas are being awarded in a totally random lottery, and that's wrong". They would also be asked to offer changes so that H-1B visas are awarded to the 'most-skilled or highest-paid applicants'.

The new directive also attracted skepticism from Chuck Schumer, the Senate Minority Leader, who said Trump's policies put profits over people.

He said his organization will enforce "Hire American" decides that are meant to secure occupations and wages of specialists in the United States.

American jobs need to be protected and this executive order seems like a good step.

"In recent years, universities report that foreign students make up over 60 per cent of their STEM undergraduate and graduate degrees", Bernhard said.

"No longer are we going to allow foreign countries to cheat our producers and our workers out of federal contracts".

Warren Gatland reveals hardest decisions in Lions squad
The Wales flanker will be the second player to captain the Lions twice, after England great Martin Johnson (1997, 2001). Scotland have just two representatives in Stuart Hogg , a likely starter at full-back, and fellow back Tommy Seymour .

"There's some things that the Trump administration could do at the margins that might help clean up some of the worst abuses in the program", Costa said, but "legislation is going to be required to really fix the program".

H-1B visas are used primarily by technology companies to bring workers with highly specialized skills to the United States.

Asserting that the H-1B visa system was meant to meet the acute shortage of highly-skilled domestic talent in the USA, it said additional curbs on the H-1B or L-1 visas would hurt thousands of USA businesses and their efforts to be competitive by hindering access to needed talent. It also calls for a review and reform of the H-1B program for skilled workers.

With rising protectionism across markets like the US, Singapore and now Australia, companies are beginning to adjust their business models to reduce their dependence on visas, hiring more locals instead.

The United States grants 85,000 H-1B temporary visas to high-skilled foreigners every year - 65,000 hired from overseas and 20,000 from those enrolled in USA colleges. The number of applications for H-1B visas fell to 199,000 this year from 236,000 in 2016, according US Citizenship and Immigration Services. His bid to revamp the American Health Care Act was an embarrassing failure for the administration.

"The President's Tuesday order directs the federal bureaucracy to enforce visa law vigorously and study new ways to reform and restrict the H-1B system", reiterated Nasscom.

The move is a deterrent to Indian IT firms which send software engineers to the U.S. on H-1B visas.
