Derek Jeter, Jeb Bush Team Up to Bid for Miami Marlins

AP source Jeter Bush join forces in bid to buy Marlins

According to multiple reports earlier this month, Jeter is involved in discussions with Marlins president David Samson and has retained veteran Wall Street executive Gregory Fleming to represent his interests.

According to the Miami Herald, Jeter is teaming up with former Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush in an effort to buy the Miami Marlins. They are competing against a NY financier named Wayne Rothbaum, manager of Quogue Capital, a source close to the situation told the Herald.

Owner Jeffrey Loria has been fielding offers for the team, which moved into a county-owned stadium in Miami's Little Havana neighborhood in 2012. Reports emerged in December that he's looking for $1.7 billion for the team. In its most recent valuation in 2016, Forbes estimated the franchise is now worth $675 million.

Loria purchased the Marlins in 2002 for $158 million.

The Herald is reporting that Jeter and Bush were once rivals.

The recently married Jeter has long talked about his goal of owning a baseball team following his playing career, which finished in 2014.
