North Korea flaunts long-range missiles in birthday parade

U.S. May Launch Preemptive Strike Against North Korea: Report

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has made an appearance at an vast military parade celebrating the birthday of his late grandfather and North Korea founder Kim Il-sung.

Tension had escalated sharply amid concern the North may conduct a sixth nuclear test or a ballistic missile test launch around Saturday's 105th birth anniversary of founding father Kim Il Sung that it calls the "Day of the Sun".

The United States Pacific Command said the North Korea missile blew up nearly immediately.

"The missile blew up nearly immediately", the US Defence Department said of the early morning launch which was also monitored by the South Korean military.

The U.S. Pacific Command this week sent the USS Carl Vinson nuclear-powered aircraft carrier naval formation that includes guided missile destroyers and aircraft squadrons to the region.

Pyongyang's rogue atomic ambitions have come into sharp focus in recent weeks, with United States President Donald Trump vowing a tough stance against the North and threatening unilateral action if China failed to help curb its neighbour's nuclear programme.

"We will respond to an all-out war with an all-out war and a nuclear war with our style of a nuclear attack", said Choe, widely seen by analysts as North Korea's No. 2 official. Solid-fuel missiles can be fired more quickly than liquid-fueled missiles because the fuel is already just hanging out in the missile prior to launch.

The extended-range Scud missile in that earlier launch suffered an in-flight failure and fell into the sea off North Korea's east coast, according to USA imagery and assessments.

Mr Johnson said: "We stand alongside our global partners in making clear that North Korea must adhere to United Nations resolutions created to secure peace and stability in the region and stop its pursuit of nuclear weapons".

Surprise: US Carrier Nowhere Near N. Korea
Cavas was first to report on Monday about the Navy's post that revealed the Carl Vinson nowhere near the Korean Peninsula. He did not point out that the Carl Vinson was not, in fact, steaming into the area and would not be for 14 more days.

"Military analysts paid close attention to two new types of intercontinental ballistic missiles enclosed in canister launchers mounted on the backs of trucks - none of which had been displayed before".

Sinpo is on the east coast of North Korea.

Saturday's parade, the annual highlight of North Korea's most important holiday, came amid growing global worries that North Korea may be preparing for its sixth nuclear test or a major missile launch, such as its first flight test of an ICBM capable of reaching United States shores.

During the rally, Kim saluted as ranks of goose-stepping soldiers followed by tanks and other military hardware paraded in Pyongyang.

In his annual New Year's address, Kim said North Korea's preparations for an ICBM launch had "reached the final stage".

Putin will be asked to convince North Korea to calm down.

China warned on Friday: "The U.S. and South Korea and North Korea are engaging in tit for tat, with swords drawn and bows bent, and there have been storm clouds gathering", according to state news agency Xinhua, translated by several media outlets.
