Facebook is Bringing Extensions and Bot Discovery to Messenger

Messenger users in the US will have access to Western Union's industry-leading digital and retail cross-border money transfer platform, as well as many innovative features including access to real-time foreign exchange rates and automated customer support.

As more and more brands compete for consumers' attention on Messenger, the platform could become fairly noisy. You will get to see trending bots, featured bots and a dedicated search bar to look up more bots. This could include nearby places that people can message, and even businesses that can offer support or answer any questions that may pop up at any particular moment.

Western Union has developed a money transfer bot for Messenger, which offers a simple, seamless experience for those who want to move money to nearly anywhere in the world.

But now with Chat Extensions that same utility can be applied to sharing content, too. Using these extensions, users can do stuff like bringing bots into conversation.

The new product was unveiled during Facebook's prestigious F8 Developer Conference in San Jose. With bots now available in Messenger group chats, users can take advantage of ScribbleChat's unique handwriting and animation features across all of their conversations. The more you use M, the more it will make relevant suggestions to you. TriviaBlast, Spotify, Swelly and many more already offer these experience. The conference started today and continues into tomorrow, but Facebook has already pushed out a number of press releases based on some of the things talked about there.

Businesses are now able to generate multiple parametric QR codes for one bot, offering their customers more choice. We're not particularly used to scanning QR codes and the like on a routine basis.

The prime thrust for Mastercard into bots-or really any other edge device or software-is to extend the reach of its payments capabilities into the new realm of consumer interaction.

I know. The potential of just what is possible with this is literally huge.

Measuring user behavior offline dovetails nicely with Facebook's other tools, which are created to help companies track their users in aggregate across a variety of digital platforms.

Once brands do connect with users on Messenger, the results are positive, Marcus argued. Marcus showed off an example by dropping a song into a conversation using Spotify's chat extension. There will be more to the story, so be sure to stay tuned in for that.
