Bannon, Kushner meet to smooth tensions

Amandi had posed the question about Bannon's potential ouster following reports that the senior adviser has become increasingly isolated inside the White House.

Kushner's failure to disclose these meetings with Russian officials was the third time a Trump administration official had not disclosed details about meetings and conversations with Russians. "The only thing we are shaking up is the way Washington operates as we push the president's aggressive agenda forward".

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) on Sunday tweeted at President Trump, calling White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon a "lynchpin" between the president and grassroots voters.

Kushner and other aides anxious that Bannon's fixation on "deconstructing" government had not served Trump well in the first months of his presidency.

They are both Trump insiders, so what is there to fight about?

It was a shocking move when President Trump appointed former media executive Steve Bannon to the National Security Council back in January.

Some of the former Trump advisers said Priebus is at fault for not gaining control of the feuding and Cohn, a former Goldman Sachs executive, would be a candidate to replace him.

While Kushner and Bannon began as allies, the relationship between the two men has deteriorated as the White House has struggled with a series of setbacks, including the president's failed efforts to ban immigration from several majority-Muslim countries and to repeal Obamacare.

Indeed, Kushner's lawyer, Jamie Gorelick, said that the form was sent in prematurely on January 18, and a day later, Kushner told the Federal Bureau of Investigation he would submit more information.

Bannon also told his associates, "I love a gunfight", according to another Axios report, which said that "the hatred between the two wings" in the White House was "intense and irreconcilable".

His approach apparently hasn't set well with Bannon.

But after his removal from the National Security Council, Bannon said his job was done and offered a different explanation for his role. He's channeled the populist and nationalist sentiment that propelled Trump's campaign, and his placement on the National Security Council committee was criticized by some members of Congress and Washington's foreign policy establishment, who said it risked politicizing the security advice provided to the president.
