10 foods that can combat depression

The World Health Awareness Day's campaign this year is touted to focus on getting more people across the world dealing with depression to come forward and seek help.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared that depression will be the theme for this year's World Health Day, which is being marked today. "Although depression can and does affect people of all ages, from all walks of life, the risk of becoming depressed is increased by poverty, unemployment, life events such as the death of a loved one or a relationship break-up, physical illness and problems caused by alcohol and drug use", the World Health Organization noted. It is now the second leading cause of death among people aged 15 to 29 - a statistic that should jolt us all into action.

"Integrating religion yoga exercise and psychologist treatment is a holistic approach to treat depression", Borker said. By talking about depression and mental health openly and honestly, we can help end the stigma that too often acts as a barrier for those who want and need help. According to WHO's latest estimates, between 2005-2015, there has been an 18 per cent increase in people dealing with depression, that is approximately 300 million people.

In many countries of the world, there is little or no support available for people with mental health disorders.

"A better understanding of what depression is will help reduce the stigma associated with mental illness".

Goldman Sachs has a rare earnings miss and the stock drops

In the press conference for the World Health Day, WHO-Western Pacific Region Director Shin Young-soo call such reality a "tragedy". PHCC Health Centers are the first point of contact for patients with common mental health problems like depression.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the World Health Day is marked globally on April 7 of every year. And it goes without saying that if you think you have depression, all you need is to just seek help. I appeal to Member States to include mental health in their national health development agenda.

Depression is known to significantly impair a person's cognitive abilities, affecting functioning at home, at work, at school, and in all relationships at all levels. Ask how they're feeling and let them know you are there to listen.

"Even in high-income countries, almost 50% of people with depression do not get treatment". This can be done by talking and listening to them, helping and supporting them to break free from depression. While it may seem hard to get excited about yet another "world-something-day", this year, simply acknowledging World Health Day as a company could leave you with a healthier, more productive workforce.

"This can be done by having conversations about depression the same way we do with any other disease".
