United pledges to review policies on removal of passengers

United spokeswoman Megan McCarthy said Wednesday that the passengers can take the compensation in cash, travel credits or miles.

"Well, we'll have to drag you", the officer says to Dao, 69. United apologized for the incident, saying "it's never too late to do the right thing".

Following the incident on Flight 3411, the Chicago Department of Aviation has confirmed that one of its officers had not followed protocol and has been placed on leave pending a review of his actions.

Dr. David Dao was forcibly removed from a full flight after refusing to relinquish his seat.

Chicago's City Council scheduled a hearing Thursday to question United and the Aviation Department about the episode. The head of United's parent company has scrambled to contain the damage to the carrier's reputation. In a statement his attorneys said his family is "appreciative of the outpouring of prayers, concern and support they have received". The airline also said all passengers on the flight would get a refund.

Chicago attorneys for a Kentucky doctor dragged off a United Express flight want the airline and the city of Chicago to preserve evidence in the case.

Since the video has gone viral and sparked controversy over how airlines treat their passengers, competitors Emirates and Royal Jordanian Airlines did not hesitate to throw major shade at United.

In an effort to calm the backlash, United also announced that passengers on United Express Flight 3411 would be compensated equal to the cost of their tickets.

And before you can say "not gonna happen", Oliver broke down the reasons why a Le Pen loss is far from a sure thing. Three-quarters of non-FN voters said the party as "dangerous for democracy" and four out of five found it "racist".

Screaming can be heard on the videos, but nowhere is Dao seen attacking the officers. Christie's state has a special interest in United's practices because he said the airline controls 70% of the flights at Newark Liberty International Airport. The identity of the person with whom he was talking is unknown.

While the facts and circumstances are still evolving, especially with respect to why this customer defied Chicago Aviation Security Officers the way he did, to give you a clearer picture of what transpired, I've included below a recap from the preliminary reports filed by our employees.

United had selected Dao and three other passengers at random for removal from the plane after unsuccessfully offering $800 in travel vouchers and a hotel stay to customers willing to give up their seats.

"This will never happen again", he said.

Tuesday night, four members of the Senate Commerce Committee asked United Airlines and Chicago airport authorities to explain what led to the man's removal calling United's explanation "unsatisfactory". "No one should ever be mistreated this way", said Munoz in the Tuesday statement.

"This will include a thorough review of crew movement, our policies for incentivising volunteers in these situations, how we handle oversold situations and an examination of how we partner with airport authorities and local law enforcement".

Lawyers want surveillance videos, cockpit voice recordings, passenger and crew lists, and other materials preserved.
