Type 2 Diabetes On The Rise Among Kids And Teens

But what is clear is that the significant increase in diagnosed cases of both type 1 and type 2 diabetes - which was formerly called "adult-onset" diabetes because of its previous rarity in children - is a problem that must be addressed to protect kids' health and well-being.

After reviewing data on 10- to 19-year-olds in primarily five states (California, Colorado, Ohio, South Carolina and Washington), researchers determined that 12.5 out of every 100,000 of them had a bona fide case of type 2 diabetes in 2011 and 2012. During the same period, the rate of newly diagnosed cases of T2D increased by 4.8%. However, the Native American youth who participated in the SEARCH study are not representative of all Native American youth in the United States.

The researchers at Gothenburg University in Sweden noted a 40 per cent reduction in the rate of cardiovascular disease among type 1 diabetics and 20 per cent among type 2 diabetics, compared to people in good health.

The rate of new diagnosed cases of type 2 diabetes rose much more sharply in females (6.2 percent) than in males (3.7 percent) ages 10-19.

Not only did white kids and teens start out with the lowest incidence of type 2 diabetes, they were the only demographic that didn't experience an increase in incidence over the 10 years of the study. It's caused by the bodies inability to make insulin - the hormone that helps the body absorb glucose.

According to the American Diabetes Association, this ethnic group is "disproportionately affected" by this condition, having 1.7 more chances of contracting the disease than the non-Hispanic white population. Asian Americans stand at the second position in increasing rate of diabetes.

Talk-radio host Alex Jones argues persona in custody dispute
Lawyers for both Jones and his wife, who are under a gag order, did not respond to requests for comment on Monday. Jones has frequently hosted Trump adviser Roger Stone, and some prominent politicians, such as U.S.

Type 1 diabetes, also known as juvenile onset diabetes, is thought to be an autoimmune disorder, where the individual's own body attacks the cells that produce insulin, making them insulin deficient. In the past, type 2 diabetes was extremely rare in youth, but it has become more common in recent years.

"These studies highlight our concerns about the increasing prevalence of diabetes". But these days, type 2 is being diagnosed in school kids, and occasionally in toddlers.

In people with type 2 diabetes, the body doesn't use insulin properly.

Additionally, CDC's NEXT-D study aims to understand how population-targeted policies affect preventive behaviors and diabetes outcomes and answer questions about quantity and quality of care used, costs, and unintended consequences. Whether these threats are chronic or acute, manmade or natural, human error or deliberate attack, global or domestic, CDC is the US health protection agency. Obesity is the main risk factor for type 2 diabetes, though it's not the only factor involved in the disease.

The number of diabetes cases has surged dramatically in the last decade.
