Trump goes after leading Democrat in Georgia race

President Trump is weighing in on the special elections replace members of the U.S. House who became Cabinet secretaries, accusing the media of downplaying last week's Republican victory in Kansas while disparaging the Democrat vying for one in Georgia.

On Twitter, Trump said Monday that "The super Liberal Democrat in the Georgia Congressional race tomorrow wants to protect criminals, allow illegal immigration and raise taxes!"

A day before Democratic candidate Jon Ossoff will try to pull off a major upset in Georgia's 6th District, which has always been safe for Republicans, Trump warned voters about Ossoff's stances on immigration, taxes and criminal justice. Ossoff has benefited from the state's crowded "jungle primary", in which 18 candidates are competing and Ossoff has managed to distinguish himself among the Democrats. If Ossoff can take home more than 50 percent of the vote as he faces a fractured Republican field, he'll win the seat outright.

The Opinion Savvy poll conducted for FOX 5 shows Democrat Ossoff leading the race at 42percent, followed by former Georgia Secretary of State Handel at 21 percent.

Ossoff, in a statement, responded that Trump was "misinformed", saying he would bring "fresh leadership, accountability and bipartisan problem solving to Washington". If no one clears that threshold, the top two vote-getters, regardless of party, would head to a June runoff.

'I don't care what party you're from, ' said Marty Aftewicz, a 66-year-old Republican voter from Marietta. And Republican-leaning voters caught up to an initial Democratic lead in early voting.

Stephens is a 6'1 Black male, 244 pounds, has a full beard and is driving a new white Ford Fusion with OH temporary tags. In another video, Stephens can be seen bumping fists and high-fiving other revelers in the street excited about the win.

In an Ossoff/Handel runoff, Ossoff has 44 percent, Handel 42 percent, and 14 percent are undecided. "That's bad news for any Democrat going into a runoff in a Republican-friendly, long-term Republican-held district".

The polls in the 6th District special election race will be open from 7 am to 7 pm Tuesday.

The closely watched contest has drawn national attention as the first political bellwether of the Trump era, after the district almost split its vote between the Republican leader and Hillary Clinton in last year's presidential election. Price won this district by landslide victories every two years, and before that portions of it were represented by Newt Gingrich and Johnny Isakson.

Nevertheless, the fact that Trump carried the sixth district by just 2% in 2016 is giving Ossoff and his supporters hope. "We got stuck with Trump".

"Stop Donald Trump, the man who encourages racial and religious discrimination and sexism", Jackson says.

"You see $8.3 million, that's a significant chunk that somebody can run in their district", one GOP operative familiar with the race recently told Business Insider. But Trump's tepid support in the district and Ossoff's out-of-nowhere campaign may be the first big test of the Trump resistance - or just another close call for frustrated Democrats.
