Apple added to self -driving test permit list

On the list of companies receiving permits to test self-driving vehicles on California roads, Apple's name popped up for the first time at the very end of the list of 29 other firms.

So, Apple's vision for autonomous systems clearly extends beyond transportation, but for now, they appear to be getting ready to burn some rubber (um, hopefully not) in California with their latest self-driving software. In March, the state's DMV announced it was was bringing into the sunlight the autonomous auto testing being doing by companies in the state.

Like Google did in the past, Apple will most likely be fitting these vehicles with it's own software and hardware to test in real-world conditions what they've been secretly developing in their own labs.

"Apple is investing heavily in machine learning and autonomous systems", the company said then.

Apple will chip away at this space, and at some stage reveal their plans - you'd be mad to assume it's the future of Apple, but you'd also be mad to assume it won't be a huge part of their future - this is one company that's very hard to read and predict at the best of times.

Pence to open Asian trip amid tensions with North Korea
Asked about North Korea this week, he told reporters: " North Korea is a problem". "The problem will be taken care of". Tough rhetoric aside, Trump's advisers have chosen a policy that appears to hew to that of the Obama administration.

According to Bloomberg, Apple's California permit "covers three 2015 Lexus RX540h SUVs and six drivers".

Long suspected of working on a self-driving vehicle project, Apple has never openly and directly discussed its interest in cars.

Electric-car manufacturer Tesla started test-driving automated cars in California late past year. Other big brands who have been granted this permit are Google, Tesla and Ford. At last, the company's secretive efforts was crowned by the success. Now out of nowhere there is proof that Apple is working on self-driving cars.

Apple declined to comment, referring to public remarks that it had submitted to federal highway authorities in November on its research into automation.

"It's encouraging to hear Apple is still in the autonomous vehicle game", said Rebecca Lindland, executive analyst at Kelley Blue Book. The company is only testing components of a self-driving vehicle.
